We are glad you are committed to a career in family medicine and exploring training opportunities in Maine. Maine is spectacular, offering something for everyone - mountains and coastline, rural and urban. Our residency has a 35+ year track record of preparing outstanding family physicians who go on to care for their communities “The Central Maine Way.”
Our top priority is to provide an intellectually stimulating and emotionally supportive environment in which to learn and develop your family medicine skills and to formulate your own practice style. We work to achieve that through:
Our Flexibility - you get to choose a "selective" to help you focus in on the piece of family medicine that interests you most. You can pursue opportunities in rural full scope family medicine, women’s health, international medicine, integrative medicine, osteopathic manipulation, sports medicine, wilderness medicine, etc. We will work with you to put together an individualized curriculum that allows you to leave residency feeling excited about being a family physician.
Resident Input - we have multiple structured times for residents and faculty to meet together to exchange feedback, share ideas and ensure that our educational opportunities are meeting the needs of the residents. We also have two 3rd year chief residents, elected by their peers, who attend the entire weekly faculty meeting to make sure that the resident perspective is represented at all levels of decision making.
The Core Faculty - all of our faculty members strive to provide a supportive and integrated educational experience. While representing a variety of backgrounds and interests, their core mission is to teach learners and care for patients, side by side with our residents. Our faculty are very collegial and works carefully to coordinate teaching efforts and make sure the residency space feels like the residents' "home".
Outstanding Clinical Training – whether working in our innovative Family Medicine Center, in our busy tertiary care hospital or our rural outreach hospitals, you will learn from interesting patients, caring clinical staff and exceptional providers who are all a part of the Central Maine Medical Family’s integrated healthcare system. Our care is enhanced by well-established electronic medical records, state of the art facilities and a commitment to being a living model of the Patient and Family Centered Medical Home.
Whether you are looking for a place to do your Family Medicine Residency or exploring options for medical student clerkships and 4th year electives, I invite you to come learn more about “The Central Maine Way.”
On behalf of our faculty, residents and clinical and administrative staff, thanks for considering the Central Maine Medical Center Family Medicine Residency – we look forward to welcoming you to our “family.”
